8 more brands of pet food recalled because ingredient could make dogs severely ill

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A few days ago, we reported that several brands of pet food were being recalled due to potentially high levels of vitamin D. It is an essential vitamin for healthy dogs, but when consumed too much, it can lead to “serious health problems”, including kidney failure or death.

Since that initial report, the list of recalled products from the FDA has grown steadily.

The FDA says this is a “developing situation and this list may not be complete.” It will be updated as more information becomes available.

Currently, the list of recalled dry dog ​​foods provided to the FDA includes:

These recalled products were sold nationwide. Symptoms of excess vitamin D include vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss. If your pet shows signs of these symptoms, contact a veterinarian immediately. Provide a complete feeding history to your veterinarian. You may find it helpful to take a photo of the pet food label including the lot number.
