September 14 (Wednesday) From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Beginning Again — a program for caregivers and those who have experienced the loss of a loved one — meets the second Wednesday of each month at 5106 N. Harrison. For more information or to RSVP, call (405) 695-5006 or (405) 312-1771.
September 14-17 (now until Saturday) Tecumseh’s city-wide event, Frontier Days, is free. There will be live music, vendors, food trucks, a parade, a contest, gospel singing and a children’s area with plenty for everyone to do. Everyone is invited to come out and celebrate the historic 1891 land that helped form the town of Tecumseh. This year, the Frontier Days contest was held on September 11, the Gospel Sing on September 15, and then on September 17, the one-day event kicks off with a fun 5k/1 mile run/walk and breakfast. pancake lunch hosted by the local American Legion. . At 10 a.m. on the 17th, the parade begins. After the parade, several events are planned, such as a pet show, a beard/mustache contest, a watermelon eating contest, and constant entertainment on two stages. There is a car show with vehicles of all makes and models. There will also be a free children’s zone, free carriage rides and a dip tank. At 6 p.m., the festivities continue at Slick Humphrey’s Park with a concert—Battle of the Bands style. Food trucks will be available. September 15 (Thursday) At 4:00 p.m., the Shawnee Beautification, Parks and Recreation Committee is holding a special call meeting in the Town Hall Room at 16 W. 9th St. to discuss the objectives of the committee.
Starting at 7 p.m., the third Thursday Poetry Night is hosted at the Lunch Box, 217 E. Main, featuring Sly Alley. Alley’s work has been published in The Muse, Dragon Poet Review and included in the anthology Ain’t Gonna Be Treated This Way (Village Books Press, 2017). Her debut collection of poetry titled Strong Medicine (Village Books Press, 2016) won the 2017 Oklahoma Book Award for Poetry. He writes on a vintage royal typewriter in a fortified cabin in Tecumseh.
After it is read, an open mic will provide participants with the opportunity to read their own work or that of others.
The Lunch Box will open at 6 p.m. for those who wish to order a meal.
The Pottawatomie County Community Market hosts its annual Harvest Moon Dinner.

September 16 (Friday) From 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Arts @317 will hold its September Block pARTy event.
The featured artist is John May, who makes rings, bells, tooth fairy boxes and several other items from coins. He will show how he makes some of his objects and put his work on sale. More things, including music and games, will take place outside under the awning weather permitting.
BancFirst Shawnee, Tecumseh and McLoud want to invest in area school-sponsored organizations, groups and teams. Applications are being accepted for potential donations of $250 or $500 through the Pottawatomie County Public School Giving Program.

September 17 (Saturday) At 10 a.m., Gateway to Prevention and Recovery will hold its second Recovery Walk. All are invited to participate to honor themselves, their loved ones and/or members of the community.
The event will take place on the museum grounds of the Paul and Ann Milburn Center, just north of the Santa Fe depot.
From 10 a.m. to noon, the Shawnee Public Library is hosting a polystyrene recycling event. Bring clean foam food containers, cups and packaging materials to the event to have them densified and recycled into usable plastic. Moss takes 500 years or more to start degrading in landfills. The Churches Caring for Creation Coalition has partnered with Pioneer Library System to hold foam recycling events at several branches of the system. If it’s raining, the event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 1.

Sept. 19-Dec. 12 (Monday) An informal, in-depth study of the Gospel of John will be offered for adults on Monday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m., until December 12. The focus will be on the purpose of John’s writing and the conceptual word pictures he uses to describe Christ on earth. The teachings of Christ will be studied in their original context, with lasting messages for today. The instructor is Cliff Craig, recently retired after more than 40 years of teaching the Bible in churches and colleges. September 22 (Thursday) 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pottawatomie County Health Department, 1904 S.
Gordon Cooper Drive, Shawnee, there will be a booster seat distribution event. The child, the child’s parent or legal guardian, and the vehicle must be present to receive a seat. Bring proof of government assistance, such as WIC/ SNAP/ SoonerCare. For more information, call (405) 273-2157.
From 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. between 9th and Main Street on Bell in Downtown, Community Renewal, in partnership with the City of Shawnee, will host the Downtown Block Party, a free family event this month.
With live music, food trucks, retail vendors, free kids activities, adult drinks and there’s something for everyone.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wesley United Methodist Church at 302 E. Independence in Shawnee will have its Free Clothes Closet, accessible at the pavilion behind the church.
September 24 (Saturday) Starting at 9 a.m., the Earlsboro Fun Run at Earlsboro Park.
The ticket price is $25.
Sept. 26-Oct. 2 (Monday to Sunday) September 26 through October 2 is National Diaper Awareness Week.

October 6-8 (Thursday-Saturday) The Friends of the Library are anticipating its next fall book sale from October 6-8. On the first day, the members-only sale will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (on the 6th).
Memberships are also available at the door.
The sale then opens to the public from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the same evening.
On October 7, the hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
And on October 8, the sale will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. In addition, a raffle for teachers will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the 8th.
Paper bags are 50 cents each and hardback books are $1. Books will also be sold for $5 per bag with bags provided.

October 28 From 4-6 p.m. at Absentee Shawnee Housing Authority, 107 N. Kimberly Ave., Sponsors Community Renewal and Indian Child Welfare are hosting a Trunk or Treat event. Additionally, residents can email costume photos to enter a costume contest by October 28 to twallace@ashousingauthority. com. Be sure to send photo/name/age group. The competition will have first, second and third place prizes for 0-5 year olds; 6 to 12 years old; and 12-18 year olds. The winners will be announced on November 4.
October 29 (Saturday) From 5-9 p.m. at the Brown Derby, 1830 N. Kickapoo, Shawnee, residents are invited to Cruise the Poo October, a Trunk or Treat event where attendees can view classic cars and collect candy.
