The shelter offers a special feline adoption offer

The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter cares for many cats and kittens looking for their new home. Due to this increase, all cats 6 months and older will be available for adoption for $22 when you adopt through June 30.

Adoption fees include neutering, microchipping (including registration), age-appropriate vaccinations, routine flea/worm treatment, and a free pet wellness exam with a local participating veterinarian. In addition, all cats adopted during this period will go home in a new Sherpa carrier.

Santa Cruz Shakespeare is looking for help with its hall

Santa Cruz Shakespeare is looking for volunteers to spend an hour or two from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays in June to prepare its outdoor theater space, The Grove, for its 2022 summer festival which begins July 10. .

Santa Cruz Shakespeare features professional actors from across the country and inspired by deep local roots that stretch back more than 40 years, according to a statement from the organization.

There will be a variety of tasks including gardening, weeding, raking, landscaping, cleaning and maintenance. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves.

Summer productions include Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Twelfth Night, as well as the world premiere of The Formula, by Santa Cruz playwright Kathryn Chetkovich.

A “Gigantic Book Sale” sponsored by Friends of the Aptos Library from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 11 and noon to 3 p.m. June 12 at Aptos Grange, 2555 Mar Vista Drive, Aptos.

Tech Talks at Santa Cruz Public Libraries

Santa Cruz Public Libraries will be offering three free Tech Talks in June. On June 9, “Tech Talks: Data Privacy for Apple” will explore settings and apps to reduce your digital footprint. On June 16, Android users can learn about data privacy. The last Tech Talk of June, June 30, will cover travel and mapping apps for Apple.

All Tech Talks events are being held virtually from 11 a.m. to noon on Zoom. Registration is mandatory. For more information, visit santacruzpl.org. Registrants will receive an email with the Zoom meeting link immediately after registering for the event.

Reopening of Garfield Park Library Host

Santa Cruz Public Libraries, in partnership with Friends of the Public of Santa Cruz, announced the grand reopening of the renovated Garfield Park Branch Library.

The celebration takes place from noon to 4 p.m. on June 11 at the library, 705 Woodrow Ave. in Santa Cruz.

Opening day festivities begin with special guest speakers Yolande Wilburn, SCPL Library Director, Third District Supervisor Ryan Coonerty, Mike Rotkin and others. Children can enjoy story hours with librarians, participate in crafts and be charmed by a traveling fairy from Happily Ever Laughter. Local musical favorites Samba Cruz will play from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. All ages are invited to join us for refreshments and planting native flower seedlings.

As part of the event, the community can tour the dynamic remodel, get a library card, borrow library materials, and learn more about rummer’s reading program.

St. John’s Church Dinner Fundraiser

To commemorate Pride Month, the Episcopal Church of St. John’s the Baptist will be hosting a teriyaki fundraising dinner and Pride party from 4-8 p.m. June 11 outside the church, 125 Canterbury Drive, Aptos.

At the party, live music starts around 4:30 p.m.

The event offers individually wrapped snacks and beverages.

The meal will consist of teriyaki chicken or tofu rice with a “rainbow” of vegetables. Both meals are gluten and dairy free and the tofu dish is vegan. Suggested donation: $15; all proceeds will support St. John’s Ministries. The meal is available from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Redwood Mountain Fair is back

The 11th Annual Redwood Mountain Fair returns Friday and Saturday to Roaring Camp, 5401 Graham Hill Road, Felton.

The event includes a lineup of 20 bands performing on two stages, unique art and artisan vendors, food, local micro-brews, wine and cider, and entertainment.

The fair has already donated more than $400,000 to local and regional non-profit, school and service organizations and looks forward to helping them again.
