Multiple Coyote Attacks in Fairfield, Owners Tell of Horrifying Pet Deaths

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Residents of Fairfield are warning pet parents about packs of coyotes they say have killed several dogs and cats in the area.

It’s a problem believed to affect people across all tri-states.

“It’s quite sad to have to pick up your dog’s remains,” said a man who spoke with FOX19 but preferred to remain anonymous due to the trauma of the experience.

The man says his dog, Princess Leia, was killed by coyotes two weeks ago. “I went down to the yard and what I saw was horrible. It was horrible. Shocking.”

A rose now marks the spot in the man’s garden where Leia died.

“You’ve heard we have coyotes, but you never think they’re going to come into your fenced yard until you’ve been educated and found out they can jump fences,” he said. declared.

Another man, Donald Hubbard, says he left his dog, Peanut, out around 4:30 a.m. one morning, but Peanut never returned.

“The next morning, my son-in-law found remains in the yard where the coyote had hit him,” Hubbard said.

Fairfield residents like Donna Gamblin say coyotes have always been a concern. But she says now there are more and they go out during the day. She says children could be at risk as well as pets.

Gamblin and other residents spoke about the issue before Fairfield City Council on Monday. She says she felt like they dismissed her concerns.

“We’re all terrified, and so, you know, we’re taking precautions,” Gamblin said.

These precautions include the purchase of solar lights and a bear horn.

The Humane Society of the United States says killing coyotes just makes them breed more. The best approach is to scare them away with loud noises.

The Humane Society recommends keeping cats indoors and never leaving dogs outdoors unsupervised. He also advises making food secure, such as storing it in a garage in wildlife-proof containers. Pets must be fed indoors.
